The battle between the world's leading tablets or which one suits you best?
Thin.Light.Fully loaded – this is the motto, trying to sell the new Apple iPad2. Is this tablet the best on the market though?
The new Galaxy Tab 10.1 holds the other leading position in the tablet market, and it leads the competition for thinnest and largest screen tablet with its 565 grams and 8.6mm, compared to Apple's iPad2 603 grams and 8.6mm. Sold under the motto: It's time for a better tablet. It's time to Tab, Samsung has its way in the top 3 tablets ranking.
Surely, the design of Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of the cleanest seen on the market. When it comes to a matter of approximately 40 grams, however, the battle is still to begin, and the two tablets' other characteristics matter more.
What most average users are primarily interested in, when choosing a tablet, is the characteristics of the display. While Galaxy Tab has 1280 x 800 WXGA and 149 pixels per inch, iPad2 is left behind with 1024 x 768 WXGA and 132 pixels per inch.
So far so good – it seems that both companies have done a nice job, when improving the models of their tablets, despite the little lead in display characteristics that Galaxy has. Both of them have 1GHz dual-core processors and lack ports, except the 30-pin dock connector port.
The most interesting part is when we try to compare the RAM of the two tablets. It seems that Apple have not disclosed how much RAM iPad2 has. However, a Korean semiconductor analyst has claimed to know that the new A5 processor has 512MB of memory, just like iPhone 4. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, offers almost as much as double to its users – 1GB. If the Korean analyst can be trusted, Apple iPad2 loses another point in favour of Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Comparing the operating systems used in the two tablets is an extremely difficult task and, at the end, it comes to personal choice to decide which one will suit your needs best. However, despite the fact that Honeycomb (Android's latest OS for tablets) is a really fast-developing OS, when it comes to interface, Apple raises the bar really high.
One of the advantages of Apple iPad2 over Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is that it has the iCloud feature, which allows users to store document, photos, music, etc. and wirelessly make the data accessible to all their other devices. Then again, Galaxy Tab 10.1 provides its users with Samsung Hub – integrated messaging of e-mail, IM and SNS; 11 million tracks, which are easy to search, download and listen to; over 23 million e-books, 2 000 newspapers and 3 000 magazines in 49 languages.
There is a number of other features and characteristics that are worth discussing, but when buying a tablet, it is your own personal interests and taste that will lead you to making the best choice. I am convinced that regardless of whether you choose Apple iPad2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, you will be satisfied with your purchase.
