The Honda Portable Navigation System is a lightweight and simple to use GPS navigator that is built in to the dashboard of many Honda cars.  It’s not just about the directions that it offers though, as it can also act as a portable devices when walking as well as a fully functional entertainment system that will play digital music files and even eBooks.  It could be used as personal travel guide in your pocket as it will even include audio guide to tourist attractions whilst you walk around a city.  The entire GPS runs off maps that are burned onto DVD, which makes updating the GPS device very easy whenever you need to load new maps – whether for new regions, or when they become out of date.

Your Honda Navigation DVD System is installed directly into the dashboard of the Honda CR-V and Fit car models, although you can remove it from the casing in order to use it on the go as a portable device. The Honda Navigation System is installed by the official Honda dealer so that the GPS is set up correctly before you drive your car.

An Easy to Use GPS in Your Honda

The Honda Navigation DVD System is very simple to use and includes detailed digital maps that have already loaded on to the device – the maps used are the Garmin City Navigator NT versions as the backbone of the technology is developed by the Garmin company.  The Honda GPS also comes with a massive database of points of interest files.  Thes include things such as places to eat, acommodation, fuel prices and gas stations, bank machines, and loads more. These let you search for a type of location and then navigate to it using the Honda GPS.

To operate the Honda GPS all you do is simply touch the 5 inch screen , enter in where you want to go, and the Honda GPS navigator takes you there with 2D and 3D maps as well as voice guidance offering turn by turn directions.   The screen will also display warnings when you are driving near school zones and safety cameras so you can drive as safely as possible.

Also Features Entertainment Functionality

As mentioned earlier though, GPS navigation is just the beginning. Your Honda Navigation System includes many travel tools and entertainment features such as an MP3 player, audio book player (subscription to will be required), a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter , a calculator, and much more. The system also features Garmin Lock function which is a very handy anti-theft feature.

Updating Your Honda GPS Maps

If you want to update the maps on the device then you will need to purchase a Honda Navigation DVD for 2012 which contains the latest software updates and routes.  The new DVDs are developed by a company called Navteq and they released new map updates annually for the Honda range.

Please Note: Like most USB external memory, this device is not compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me unfortunately.
