If you have decided to use Wordpress for your blogging activities, you might as well congratulate yourself. You see, it’s one of the best platforms to use if you want to look good in the World Wide Web. The good thing is that it’s more than just for blogging. The fact is that Wordpress probably is the best Content Management System platforms in the planet. If you are to start an online business or you just want to have fun about everything on the internet, this is your best tool.

In almost everything, before you can master it, you should always start with the foundations. You can’t go on with the most advanced methods without undergoing the basics first. When building an infrastructure, the foundation is being carefully made first. This is to make sure that the finished product will become as strong as ever. Same is true with your knowledge of Wordpress. Don’t try to work on the most complex methods. You should master the whole user interface, the right terms and the right places first.

To help you with things, here are some of the most basic ideas you should know with Wordpress. These are the common images that you will see once you get to log in to your account. At first, it can be confusing but you will notice in the long run how easy it is compared to other platforms. Here they are:

Ø The Dashboard – It’s an organized collection of tools and items that form the menu. It can change depending on the user’s preferences and according to the theme used. The menu part is the control panel that’s made of two distinct sections. The top one shows the control panel for the posts, media, links, pages and comments. These are separated from the other ones because these are the tools which the users will be manipulating most of the time. The ones below the separator are more complex and technical in nature like appearance, plugins, users, tools and settings. The ones above make the use of Wordpress a lot easier for beginners to use.

a. Right Now/At a Glance section is where you will see the current statistics of your website. It includes the number of posts, comments, categories and tags. In addition, it contains the name of the theme that’s used and the number of widgets.

b. Recent Comments section on the other hand speaks for itself. It shows the comments recently post. The most important thing to note with this is that you should always manage these things to prevent spamming.

c. Incoming links section shows the recent links coming from sources that are coming from outside sources. The more links you have, it simple means that a lot of people are responding to your post or your content.

d. Quick Press will make you create a basic post fast. That can be good for others but if you are into Search Engine Optimization, you should write a more proper and full content for your site.

e. Drafts is where you can find the post you entered and saved but have not published yet. Either you have scheduled it for posting or you’ll have to work on it later.

Ø Post Creation – You can just click on “posts” menu. A drop down sub-menu items will appear and then click the “add-new” part and then you can start writing your post. Most Wordpress initial installations always have the “hello world” as default first post. You might want to delete that before you start posting a new one or you can do it later.

Ø Themes – Another good thing about Wordpress is that you can easily add themes to it as well as other tools. Just go to the appearance menu and click on the themes option. You can search a lot of these themes online which are offered for free and some are paid as well. The most important point here is that you should make sure that the theme suits your niche or your preferences.

These are just the overview of what you can see and what you can do for your Wordpress site. Remember, the basic will always put you on top of your game. When you use this platform, always make sure that you enjoy.
