With the cost of living inflating by the year it’s more important than ever to find ways of saving a little extra cash. One small way to cut yearly spending is to save cash on inkjet printer ink. It’s a known fact that inkjet ink is expensive and tends to last only a month or two. If you’re running out to your local Best Buy or Wal-Mart store to purchase ink, chances are you’re paying top dollar for the cartridge.
Over the years I have learned my lesson regarding inkjet printer ink. I have literally spent over a thousand dollars over the past ten years because I am constantly printing. I’m here to ensure you don’t make the same mistake – so go ahead and read these five tips:
Avoid Brand Name Ink
That popular brand-name ink available at nearly every computer component store around the world can be quite expensive. A few known brand-name ink companies include Epson, HP, Kodak, and Cannon. Truthfully you can find off-brand ink of the same quality at price-points up to 50 percent off. A good off-brand company is called Brother.
Purchase Ink Online
This tends to be the trend for every product – online pricing is cheaper than in-store pricing. It may take some extra research, but even brand-name ink can be found at major discounts. A few sites to search are Amazon.com and Buy.com for the best deals.
Also, shipping costs could be horrendous, so try finding a seller that ships free of charge, or buy in bulk to cut down shipping costs.
Clean Printer Cartridges on a Regular Basis
Leaving printer cartridges untouched for days at a time will cause dust to pile up around the dispenser chambers. When the time comes to use the printer, more ink will be dispensed out of the holes as a result of the dust. This is an unnecessary waste of ink that may even result in excess ink on the paper.
Try Printing in a Different Mode
Did you know you can set your printer to print pages at different speeds? Fast draft will use minimum ink and have the page printed within seconds. Normal and best modes will aim for quality printing, which is best for final school or work projects.
Upgrade Paper Quality
Many employers offer their employees supplies such as paper free of charge. If the paper is of higher-quality than grab some because inkjet printers tend to use less ink with higher quality paper.
That’s it for the tips I have learned over the years. Using the above five exact methods I was able to save over $50.00 in ink expenses this past year. You could do the same if you’re serious about cutting costs.
