There’s a new word in mobile connectivity, and it’s MiFi.  As you can undoubtedly deduce, MiFi stands for “My Wi-Fi”, and it is the currently the best way to get the online information access you need, wherever you need it.  MiFi devices essentially provide mobile broadband access; by connecting with mobile phone carries, the devices act as transportable wireless routers with the capacity to provide internet service to several devices, such as laptop, smartphones, and tablets.  When choosing a MiFi provider, there are number of options in the market, so here are some of the top choices to look into.

1.  Mobi PCS
Originally a mobile phone service provider focused on providing great service to the citizens of Hawaii, Mobi PCS now has national plans, including great deals on MiFi routers and plans.  If you go for the contract plan, you’ll pay no equipment or activation fees and can get service for as little as $30 per month for 4GB of high speed internet.  By opting not to get the contract, you still have the $30 per month option, but have to pay $100 in equipment fees.  The MiFi device itself weighs only two ounces, can connect to up to five devices at a time, and has a battery that provides up to four hours of usage and forty hours on stand-by.  As far as comparison deals go, this one is pretty outstanding.

2.  DataJack
DataJack is a no-contract provider that gives you two different MiFi connection options – a $70 mobile broadband modem for your laptop or a $90 mobile hotspot can connect five devices.  For either option, their service plans go as high as $50 a month for 5GB and as low as just $10 for 200MB per month.  That low end is a really strong value for the person who needs anywhere access for work-related reasons – sending and receiving emails while working on-the-go.  For others who use their internet access for more games and videos, you might want to consider a higher plan that gets more data.

3.  TruConnect
Offering two devices at similar prices as DataJack – a $70 mobile broadband modem and a $90 mobile hotspot – TruConnect also has the option of a $30 USB card.  A unique, pay-as-you-go plan, TruConnect offers no contracts.  Instead, they charge a $5 per month connection fee and then everything on top of that is based entirely upon usage, with the going rate being 3.9¢ per megabyte.  For those who know how to manage their internet usage, this can be a tremendous bargain.  In comparison, consider DataJack’s $10 for 200MB – using TruConnect, the cost would be $7.80.  But for 5GB, TruConnect would cost almost $200 versus DataJack’s $50.

It’s a brave new world out there with innumerable options for how to get the connectivity you need whenever and wherever you need it.  The most important thing to understand when making a MiFi service purchase is your own remote internet usage.  Take stock of what you need, when, and why, and you’ll be able to select the perfect service for you.
